Don't bend it

We don't need to blend in, we need to find a tribe that sees us for exactly who we are.

"Autistic kids are often told that we need help with our social skills. When I am hanging out with people who understand me, my social skills are actually quite awesome!"

This powerful quote, which we share quite often, came from one of our Autistic mentees (age 13) in response to the question, "What is something you wish everyone would understand?".

... The only time I upset a potential client was when I refused to teach her "social skills to fit in" ... I told her I'd love to work with her to know herself so she can make authentic connections as anything else just feels intensely lonely and won't fill the connection void within her.

I think of her often and truly hope she learnt to like herself and found her people.
